GIGABYTE Touch BIOS was an innovative, Windows-based software utility introduced by Gigabyte in 2011. It allowed users to view and modify system BIOS settings directly from within the Windows operating system environment, bypassing the need to reboot and press a specific key (like Delete) during startup. Core Concept and “Hybrid EFI”
At the time of its release, competitors were shifting to a full Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) environment to replace aging traditional BIOS frameworks. Gigabyte instead launched a bridge solution known as Hybrid EFI Technology.
The Problem: Traditional BIOS interfaces relied strictly on keyboards and could not natively recognize hard drives larger than 2.2 TB.
The Solution: Gigabyte’s Hybrid EFI added 3TB+ hard drive support to a standard BIOS platform. Because the native pre-boot interface still looked old-school, Gigabyte created the Touch BIOS application as a user-friendly frontend running directly inside Windows.
